The application of synthesis 9.0 repertory in utilization of ego-defense mechanisms viz. denial, suppression, rationalization, reaction formation and its related rubrics for administration of homoeopathic medicine: A case series study

Abstract:
Background: Though ego defenses is vital part of psychodynamics and psychoanalysis which is used by psychiatric to sense out mental symptoms during their interrogation which is the major part of their treatment. We as homoeopath give the importance to mind, yet we are not dealing with this aspect to take mentals of the patient. The need for this study was to facilitate clear understanding and importance of the rubric related to ego-defense mechanism by using Synthesis Repertory.
Objective: The main objective of the present study was to study the importance of the rubric related to ego-defense mechanism through synthesis repertory and understanding the set of rubrics related to particular defense mechanism which will be helpful in a clinical practice as a characteristic’s symptom for the selection of similimum.
Methods: We studied a series of 30 cases which was selected by using simple random technique. Primary data was collected from the college, guide’s, peripheral and private OPD this case is where selected on the basis of inclusion and exclusion criteria, cases who are using ego defenses mainly denial, suppression, rationalization, reaction formation were included in the study. The cases of ego-defense mechanism through Synthesis Repertory were studied and totality was constructed, repertorization was done for each case by using synthesis repertory. The cases were verified with respect to the rubric of ego-defenses and prescribed with different homeopathic medicine.
Results: On applying paired t test for statistical analysis, the calculated t value is 3.61 which is greater than table t value at 5% and 1% level of significance. Hence, the results are statistically significant.
Conclusion: This study has shown that rubrics given in Synthesis Repertory of ego defense mechanism has been useful as treating a variety of cases and also in studying various aspects of remedy and person.
