Abstract:
The adenoids are structured as a rectangular mass of lymphatic tissue, centrally located on the superior aspect and posterior wall of the nasopharynx. As a significant component of Waldeyer's ring which also encompasses the palatine and lingual tonsils these lymphoid tissues are integral to the body’s immune response. Their primary function is to facilitate the detection and response to pathogens entering through the upper respiratory tract. However, when the adenoids become enlarged, they can contribute to a myriad of health complications in pediatric populations, including respiratory obstruction, recurrent infections, and related developmental issues. The significance of the adenoids in maintaining immune function underscores the potential impact of their hypertrophy on overall child health.
