Abstract:
The psychological condition known as bipolar affective disorder (BPAD) is typified by recurrent bouts of markedly altered activity and mood in the patient. BPAD is linked to a significant illness burden, suicide rates, significant healthcare costs, and a low standard of living. A 53 years male patient was brought to Psychiatric OPD of Father Mullers Homoeopathic College & Hospital with symptoms of increased anger, loquacious aggravated by contradiction, tongue biting, increased salivation, forgetfulness aggravated by lack of sleep and mood swings. The case is diagnosed by the psychiatrist as BPAD of F31.0: Bipolar affective disorder, current episode hypomanic. The severity assessment was done at baseline and before and after the treatment with Goldberg’s Bipolar Screening Scale (GBSS). The case responded positively when treated with Lycopodium by reduction in GBSS score of 43 to three at the end of treatment within 8 months. The case demonstrates the usefulness of individualized homoeopathic medicine in management of BPAD.
