Abstract:
Nux vomica (NV) is a well-known homeopathic remedy used for various conditions, primarily gastrointestinal ailments such as gastritis. This study demonstrates the application of a network pharmacology approach, inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) research methodologies, to investigate NV's therapeutic potential. Using the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology (TCMSP) database, we identified 62 bioactive compounds in NV and analyzed their interactions with gastritis-related targets. Key pathways, including neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction, calcium signaling, and MAPK signaling, emerged as significant in the context of gastritis. Central targets such as GNAI1, SRC, and various PI3K subtypes were highlighted for their roles in crucial biological processes associated with gastritis. This example study illustrates how network pharmacology can provide insights into traditional remedies and proposes a methodological framework to address the challenges of designing in vitro or in vivo studies for Homeopathy. By integrating network pharmacology with TCM-inspired tools, such as TCMSP, this research offers a novel approach to evaluate homeopathic treatments, potentially guiding future studies and bridging traditional practices with modern scientific techniques.
