Abstract:

Allergic Rhinitis (AR), is a common condition characterized by nasal mucosal inflammation triggered by various allergens. It is an atopic disease with symptoms such as nasal congestion, clear rhinorrhea, sneezing, postnasal drip, and nasal pruritis. Indian Journal of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery mentioned that in India the prevalence rate of Allergic Rhinitis ranges from 10 to 30%, considering the increasing number of patients in daily practice. The aim is to avail an alternate, reliable, cost-effective treatment holistically.

Case Description: A 29-year-old female with a history of sneezing on and off for 10-13 years, watery discharges, and nasal congestion. Regularly received several conventional medications but no major satisfactory relief was experienced.

Materials & Methods: Modified Naranjo Criteria for Homoeopathy (MONARCH) and the Score for Allergic Rhinitis (SFAR) were used for evaluation. Repertorization based on the totality of symptoms was done with the help of Zomeo Hompath software to select individualized homoeopathic medicine.

Results: Based on the MONARCH score, it was +8, whereas the SFAR reflects a reduction in score from 8 to 2. After regular follow-ups, a decrease in the frequency of sneezing, runny nose, and congestion, concludes proper healing without recurrence of the complaint to date was noted. Ignatia Amara was found to be much more effective as a similimum in this case. Homoeopathic similimum can be considered as an alternative therapy in cases of Allergic Rhinitis as Ignatia Amara was much more effective as a similimum in this case.

Conclusion: With proper Homoeopathic medicine long-standing Allergic rhinitis can be treated successfully. Treatment with a holistic and individualistic approach resulted in prompt healing of such chronic disorders. For newer and larger studies, it might be a useful experiential learning opportunity to utilize such a similimum.
