Introduction: A supraspinatus tear refers to an injury or damage to the supraspinatus muscle or its tendon, one of the four rotator cuff muscles in the shoulder. Supraspinatus tears are extremely common among adults. Most of the rotator cuff injuries are accompanied by bicipital tendonitis. Supraspinatus tear leads to persistent pain and functional disability, progressively deteriorating the patient's overall condition and quality of life. When people with supraspinatus tear are already affected with Diabetes, Diabetes not only increases the risk of tendinopathy and tendon rupture but also causes reduced healing and recovery, increases sensitivity to pain and more time is taken for restoring range of motion. This case report showcases such a case of supraspinatus tear with bicipital tendonitis in an elderly patient with uncontrolled Diabetes Mellitus which was successfully managed by Homoeopathic treatment.
Case summary: A 73 years old female patient who reported pain in the right shoulder extending to the side of neck and elbow since 1 year. Shoulder pain was refractory to physiotherapy and moist heat. Ultrasound heat therapy could not be used due to possibilities of burn. Homoeopathic medicine Ruta 1M was prescribed. After 10 days treatment, MONARCH score of 8 was achieved and SPADI score decreased by 25 points, indicating improvement in the shoulder pain and disability.
Conclusion: Although case had a positive outcome, further researches are needed to get conclusive evidences.
