Dr. Ashok Kumar Ahirwar and Dr. Sarita Verma
Background and Objectives: The research work entitled “Treatment of Acne Vulgaris in adolescence with the help of Kent’s Repertory” with the objectives to study the effect of homoeopathic medicine in treatment of Acne Vulgaris using Kent’s Repertory, to reduce the suffering and improve the quality of life also to educate patients about the effectiveness of homoeopathy in treatment of Acne Vulgaris. The study is conducted in Govt. Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital Bhopal.
Methods: An open-label observational study on 30 cases of Acne was selected randomly on the basis of inclusion and exclusion criteria. The cases were recorded in a case proforma, keeping the individualization and holistic concept in mind. The cases were analyzed, evaluated, and repertorized through Kent’s Repertory and the medicine was selected as per the result of repertorization. I have used the Global acne grading system for assessing the result of treatment. All the cases were reviewed for the sufficient period required for analysis of results.
Results: The result of this study showed that out of the 30 cases, 05 cases showed marked improvement, 19 cases showed improvement, and 6 cases showed no improvement. The most commonly indicated medicines during the study were Nat-mur, Sulphur, Phosphorus, and Pulsatilla. The miasmatic background in most of the cases was Psora and rarely sycotic. The result was calculated by using a paired t-test.
Interpretation and Conclusion: The present study has been encouraging, where 24 cases have improved. From this study, it is evident that the majority of cases of Acne can be effectively relieved by homoeopathic treatment. Thus, homoeopathic treatment in Acne is efficient and has no side effects.
Hence, Homoeopathy has a good scope in the treatment and management of Acne by adopting a repertorial approach through Kent’s Repertory.
