Hyperlipidemia is characterized by excess of lipids in the circulating blood, which is indicated by an elevated levels of lipids more than normal range. The incidence of hyperlipidemia has increased dramatically and is now one of the most prevalent conditions worldwide affecting both developing and developed countries. Elevated lipid levels are a key contributor to increased cardiovascular diseases and managing hyperlipidaemia is crucial in reducing the risk. The disease is usually asymptomatic and the patient discovers the disease by routine blood tests. Statins being the first-line of treatment for hyperlipidaemia are known to have side effects. Hence there is a growing need for a safer and holistic alternative with better efficiency and for preventing long-term cardiovascular complication.
Case summary: A 62- year-old male presented with pricking-type pain in the left shoulder joint extending to the elbow for the past six months. Physical generals were unremarkable and with elevated lipid parameters, the cardiac risk was assessed using the Framingham Risk Score, indicated an intermediate cardiovascular risk (17.3%) to high-risk category, with the presence of diabetes mellitus, that independently increases cardiovascular risk. After a thorough case individualization process, the constitutional homoeopathic remedy Lycopodium clavatum 200 was prescribed. The case was followed over successive visits, and results were analyzed. The patient demonstrated gradual improvement in general well-being, along with a steady normalization of lipid levels, supporting the effectiveness of individualized homoeopathic treatment in managing cardiovascular risk.
