Sushil Yadav and Renu Gupta
Background: Prostatitis is a common urological condition that significantly impacts the quality of life in men, especially in middle and older age. Sabal serrulata (Saw Palmetto) is a widely recognized homeopathic and herbal remedy traditionally used for various prostate disorders, particularly prostatitis and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Objective: The aim of this review is to evaluate the therapeutic role of Sabal serrulata in the management of prostatitis, based on classical homeopathic literature, modern clinical experiences, and available scientific research.
Method: This review was compiled through an extensive study of classical homeopathic texts, materia medica, repertory references, herbal medicine research articles, and clinical trial data. Emphasis was placed on identifying indications, mechanisms of action, and therapeutic outcomes related to Sabal serrulata.
Conclusion: Sabal serrulata offers considerable therapeutic potential in the management of prostatitis, addressing not only local inflammation but also accompanying urinary and sexual symptoms. Its dual action as an anti-inflammatory and tissue restorative agent highlights its importance in both acute and chronic cases. Further well-designed clinical studies are necessary to validate and standardize its usage.
