Abstract:

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, systemic autoimmune disease characterized by persistent synovial inflammation, joint stiffness, and progressive joint destruction. Homeopathy offers several remedies that address both acute and chronic rheumatic symptoms, with Rhus toxicodendron being one of the most frequently prescribed medicines for musculoskeletal complaints.

Objective: This review aims to explore the therapeutic role of Rhus toxicodendron in the management of rheumatoid arthritis by analyzing both clinical data and insights from classical homeopathic materia medica.

Method: A comprehensive literature review was conducted using classical homeopathic texts, repertories, and peer-reviewed articles on the clinical application of Rhus toxicodendron in RA and related rheumatic conditions. The focus was placed on symptomatology, modalities, pathophysiological rationale, and published case studies or trials.

Conclusion: Rhus toxicodendron remains a cornerstone remedy in the homeopathic treatment of RA, especially in cases presenting with marked stiffness, relief from motion, and aggravation from rest. Though homeopathic prescribing is individualized, this remedy has consistent clinical value in specific rheumatic profiles. Further scientific studies and trials are necessary to substantiate its clinical efficacy in modern integrative care settings.
