Abstract:

Insomnia has emerged as a significant occupational health concern among Information Technology (IT) professionals, driven by chronic stress, erratic schedules, and extended screen exposure. This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic potential of Gelsemium sempervirens in LM potency for the treatment of insomnia among IT professionals, a population often affected by chronic stress and disrupted sleep patterns due to high occupational demands. Conducted as a nine-month observational study, participants diagnosed with clinical insomnia received individualized homeopathic treatment with Gelsemium sempervirens in LM potency. Sleep-related outcomes were systematically assessed using the Bergen Insomnia Scale (BIS) and detailed sleep diaries, focusing on key parameters such as Sleep Onset Latency (SOL), Wake After Sleep Onset (WASO), Total Sleep Time (TST), Sleep Efficiency (SE), and subjective sleep quality. The results indicated statistically significant improvements across multiple domains: BIS scores reflected a substantial decrease in insomnia severity (p < 0.001), WASO decreased significantly (t = 7.28, p < 0.001), TST increased markedly (t = -8.48, p < 0.001), and SE also showed significant enhancement (t = -5.21, p < 0.001). While the reduction in SOL was borderline significant (t = 2.18, p ≈ 0.05), subjective assessments of sleep quality revealed notable improvements (t = -3.90, p ≈ 0.001). These outcomes suggest that Gelsemium sempervirens in LM potency may serve as an effective and non-invasive therapeutic option for managing insomnia in high-stress professional settings.
