Acute diseases are characterized by sudden onset and short duration, often requiring prompt identification and management. Demographic and etiological factors significantly influence the presentation, progression, outcome and treatment protocol of such diseases. Aphorisms in Hahnemann’s Organon of Medicine, emphasize the importance of considering accessory circumstances and etiological factors in remedy selection. The focus of this study was to evaluate the influence of demographic characteristics upon etiological factors in the occurrence and management of acute diseases within a homeopathic framework.
A clinical observational study was conducted involving 90 acute cases reported at the Out-Patient Department, In-Patient Department and Rural Health centres of Sarada Krishna Homoeopathic Medical College, Kulasekharam, Kanniyakumari, Tamil Nadu, India from April 2024 to April 2025. The study revealed that the most common etiological factors were drenching in rain and changes in weather. Acute respiratory illnesses, including acute bronchitis, rhinitis, and tonsillitis, constituted over 50% of the cases. Individuals aged 1-20 years were most frequently affected. Students and Housewives were most vulnerable groups affected with acute diseases. The demographic characteristics of patients showed a strong correlation with specific etiological triggers. Homeopathic remedies such as Pulsatilla nigricans and Rhus toxicodendron were most commonly indicated. The study also demonstrated the importance of considering causative and demographic factors in remedy selection and potency choice achieving favourable outcomes in acute cases using Homoeopathic medicines. This study confirms that both demographic and etiological factors significantly influence the occurrence and expression of acute diseases. Their consideration enhances the precision of homeopathic prescribing and therapeutic success.
