Abstract:

Background: Hepatitis A is a viral infection that primarily affects the liver, with Hepatitis A virus (HAV) being one of the most common causes in children, particularly in developing countries like India. This infection is spread through the fecal-oral route, and it remains a significant health concern, especially among children under 10 years of age due to poor hygiene, contaminated food, and water sources.

Objective: The objective of this article is to explore the epidemiology, clinical features, prevention strategies, and the potential role of homeopathic therapeutics in managing acute Hepatitis A in children, with a case study highlighting the use of homeopathy in a clinical setting.

Methods: A comprehensive review of existing literature was conducted to evaluate the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, and prevention methods related to Hepatitis A. A clinical case was examined, where a 1-year-old child diagnosed with Hepatitis A was treated homeopathically with Chelidonium majus (30C), followed by Chelidonium Q tincture in the follow-up period. Laboratory investigations, including liver function tests and Hepatitis A IgM testing, were conducted to monitor the progress.

Results: The child presented with typical symptoms of Hepatitis A, including fever, anorexia, jaundice, and elevated liver enzymes (SGOT, SGPT). After treatment with Chelidonium majus, significant improvement was noted in symptoms, and follow-up with Chelidonium Q supported further recovery. Laboratory values, including liver enzymes, showed marked improvement. The homeopathic treatment complemented conventional care, contributing to symptom relief and better overall management.
