Background: Allergic respiratory diseases, including allergic rhinitis and asthma, are increasingly prevalent. Homoeopathic remedies such as Aspidosperma quebracho have historically been used in respiratory conditions, although empirical studies validating their efficacy are limited.
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Aspidosperma 6C in reducing Absolute Eosinophil Count (AEC) and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR), both markers of inflammation, in patients with allergic respiratory conditions.
Methods: A minimum of 20 patients were recruited from the Outpatient Department and peripheral centers of Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital. Eligible participants underwent baseline blood tests for AEC and ESR. They were then administered Aspidosperma 6C in the dose of three pills, three times a day, for two weeks. Follow-up blood tests were conducted post-intervention. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests.
Results: The mean AEC decreased from 571.00 ± 477.85 to 444.05 ± 305.92 (t = 2.95, p = 0.0081), and the mean ESR reduced from 28.60 ± 11.41 to 21.50 ± 10.21 (t = 3.89, p = 0.0010), indicating statistically significant improvement. Effect sizes were large, particularly for ESR reduction.
Conclusion: The findings suggest that Aspidosperma 6C may be effective in reducing inflammatory markers in allergic respiratory diseases, warranting further investigation through controlled trials.
