Abstract:

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder predominantly marked by persistent hyperglycemia due to defects in insulin secretion, action, or both. Conventional treatment focuses on lifestyle modification, oral hypoglycemics, and insulin therapy; however, growing side effects, resistance, and complications foster a search for alternative, holistic treatments. Homeopathy offers a range of medicines that aim to address the underlying constitution and metabolic dysfunction. Among these, Syzygium jambolanum (also called Jambol seed) stands out as a leading homeopathic remedy with a long tradition of use in diabetes mellitus.

Objective: This review aims to consolidate the homeopathic literature and clinical data to highlight the role of Syzygium jambolanum in diabetes mellitus, emphasizing its symptom profile, principal indications, and its place within the context of homeopathic practice.

Method: This study involves a qualitative review of classical homeopathic texts, materia medica, repertories, and journals to gather information about Syzygium jambolanum. An extensive search was performed in recognized homeopathy texts, scientific journals, and monograph reports. The data were then analyzed to extract its main indications and therapeutic applications in diabetes mellitus.

Conclusion: Syzygium jambolanum emerges as a frequently used homeopathic remedy for diabetes mellitus, especially when there’s a persistent hyperglycemia alongside related symptoms, weakness, and polyuria. While not a substitute for conventional diabetes treatment, it may aid in symptom management and metabolic stability. Proper case-taking, individualization, and follow-up remain crucial for prescribing this remedy effectively.
