Abstract:

Background: People over 40 are frequently affected by lumbar spondylosis, a degenerative spinal condition. Its traditional treatment often consists of pharmaceutical and surgical interventions, which may have negative side effects and limited long-term efficacy, and is characterized by persistent lower back pain and functional disability.

Methods: A retrospective case series included 30 patients older than 40 years of age diagnosed with lumbar spondylosis and treated solely with Bryonia alba 200C. Patients were evaluated before and after intervention with the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for the level of pain and the Monarch Functional Scale for physical functioning. Data were statistically compared with paired t-tests to assess the degree of change in scores.

Results: After 12 weeks of treatment, the average VAS score dropped significantly from 7.73 ± 0.96 to 2.73 ± 1.58 (t = 21.74, p < 0.00001), and the Monarch score dropped from 17.23 ± 2.12 to 7.87 ± 1.64 (t = 31.49, p < 0.00001). Both pain and functional impairment had statistically significant decreases.

Conclusion:  The findings suggest that Bryonia alba 200C may be an effective and safe treatment for managing lumbar spondylosis. Significant improvements in pain and functional capacity show its potential as a non-invasive alternative to traditional treatments. However, controlled studies are needed to confirm its effectiveness and broad applicability.
