Background: Dysmenorrhea is a significant recurrent pain disease with characteristics of dysregulated somatosensory processing, according to the International Association for the Study of Pain. Common recurrent and chronic pain disorders of childhood and adolescents without injury or identifiable disease are similar to the characteristics of Paediatric primary dysmenorrhea. Primary dysmenorrhea is predominantly confined to adolescent girls. Present study consists of 30 cases of children below 19 years of age diagnosed Primary dysmenorrhea using WaLIDD Score. This study is designed to understand the effectiveness of homoeopathy for the treatment or management of Primary dysmenorrhea.
Aim: To assess the role of Individualized homoeopathic medicine in primary dysmenorrhea in adolescent age group of girls.
Material & Methods: A prospective non-randomized clinical study was conducted with 30 Paediatric PD cases at Government Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, Bhopal. Cases were selected based on inclusion/exclusion criteria from various clinical settings, and a holistic approach was followed for assessment. Diagnosis criteria, and WaLIDD Score was used for assessment. Statistical analysis was performed using a paired t-test. The result was statistically significant (p < 0.05).
Results: According to the study most commonly indicated medicines Pulsatilla and Natrum Mur. Most frequently each in 8 & 4 cases (26.66% & 13.33%) respectively. were Nux vomica and Sepia each of which had 3 patients, or 10% & Belladonna, Sulphur, Calc. Carb., & Phosphorus were prescribed in 2 cases respectively i.e., 6.66%. Sabina, Ignatia & Graphitis prescribed as constitutional medicine each with 1 patient which is 3.33% respectively with 200 C potency commonly prescribed which accounts for 23 cases resulting in 76.66%. Among 30 patients, 14 patients showed moderate improvement (46.66%) 6 cases (20%) showed marked improvement, 7 cases (23.33%) showed mild improvement and remaining 3 cases (10%) showed no significant improvement. The result suggests that Homoeopathic medicines are useful in cases of Primary dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls and also improves their quality of life.
Conclusion: The study disproves the null hypothesis, demonstrating that homeopathic constitutional medicines, selected on the totality of complaints and homoeopathic principles, yield significantly positive outcomes for Primary Dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls.
