Management of subclinical hypothyroidism with homoeopathic medicine: A case report
Deepali Ingle
Hypothyroidism is characterized by a reduced activity of the thyroid gland. This condition is prevalent in India and has multiple underlying causes. It represents a hypo metabolic state that occurs due to insufficient production of thyroid hormones over an extended time or, less frequently, due to the resistance of peripheral tissues to the effects of thyroid hormones [1]. Subclinical hypothyroidism is marked by a decrease in metabolic activities. According to the ICD classification, hypothyroidism falls under the E00-E04 category. Subclinical or mild hypothyroidism indicates biochemical signs of thyroid hormone deficiency in individuals who exhibit few or no obvious symptoms of hypothyroidism. In certain instances, primary hypothyroidism is diagnosed directly, as many individuals are often unaware of the condition. Early detection of primary hypothyroidism greatly benefits from screening efforts. In this case, values of T3 and T4 are in normal limits where as TSH values are elevated, indicating subclinical hypothyroidism. The prescribed medications can aid in preventing the progression to overt primary hypothyroidism. Various studies suggest that in 80% of subclinical hypothyroidism cases, TSH levels remain below 10 IU/ml. Diagnosis of subclinical hypothyroidism can also be facilitated through TPO screening. The prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism is reported to be 53% in India, 32% in Maharashtra, and 5-6% in Pune [3]. Case Sumary: A female patient of 40 yrs of hypothyroidism was treated with individualized homoeopathic treatment. After proper case taking and reportarization. A Constitutional Medicine was selected Pulsetilla Nigricans, Potency 200 C. 1dose of 4 Pills once in a week was given to the patient Marked improvement was observed in all the symptoms her cycles appeared regularly. During the treatment patient repeated TSH test after every 2 months. Last report showed normal TSH value s is 3.2mlu/l. From this case it is observed that individualized homoeopathic medicine plays important role in the treatment of subclinical hypothyroidism and the remedy also helped in resolving the presenting complaints of the patient.
