Evidence-based homeopathic management of trichilemmal cyst: A case report

Abstract:

Pilar cysts, also known as trichilemmal cysts, are a type of cutaneous cyst. They are the most frequent type of skin cyst and affect fewer than 10% of the population. They primarily affect the scalp skin. Pilar cysts have the same morphology as your skin. They are also spherical, which might result in a dome-like bulge on the surface of your skin. The cysts are normally solid but smooth to the touch. Pilar cysts do not contain pus and should not be unpleasant when touched. It can also influence the quality of life of an individual because of altered cosmetic appearance public this may make individual hesitate to appear in public also affect the daily living of the individual. Case Summary: A 40yrs male patient came with complaints of lump on vertex painless since 4-5 years. On his 1st visit constitutional homoeopathy remedy Calcarea fluorica 30CH was prescribed and patient was followed up for approximately 8 months. Outcome assessment Criteria used in this case was for Outcome related to impact on daily living (ORIDL) was used for assessment of response of previous prescription on main complaint and general well being on numerical scale patient showed major improvement and finally cure and along with this the final outcome and possible causal attribution of the case was assessed by Modified Naranjo Criteria. At final visit score recorded was +6 which shows high likelihood that the recovery in the patient can be attributed to the homoeopathic interventions provided. Conclusion: This case report shows marked improvement in Trichilemmal cyst through decreasing the size of cyst and scalp or affected part appears to be normal with the help of individualized homoeopathic medicine.
