A case study of homoeopathic management of stress-induced alopecia totalis
Aijazurrehman Qureshee
A 49-year-old homemaker presented with patchy hair loss on the scalp and eyebrows, gradually progressing to alopecia totalis. The condition started 3-4 years earlier, a few months after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, and worsened significantly after the sudden death of her husband in October 2023, leading to severe emotional trauma and stress. Despite undergoing prolonged allopathic treatment, no sustained improvement was observed.
Homoeopathic management was initiated based on the totality of symptoms—grief, weeping tendency, and emotional sensitivity—with Ignatia amara prescribed as the constitutional remedy, Phosphoric acid as the acute remedy, and Thuja occidentalis as the intercurrent. Over successive follow-ups, marked regrowth of hair was observed on the scalp and eyebrows, with no new patches or itching. The case demonstrates the effectiveness of individualized homoeopathic treatment in restoring both hair growth and emotional balance in stress-related alopecia totalis.
