Abstract:

Menopause is a physiological event characterized by the permanent cessation of menstruation following the decline of ovarian follicular activity. Clinically, it is diagnosed after twelve consecutive months of amenorrhea not attributable to any pathological cause, usually occurring between 45 and 55 years of age. The reduction of estrogen and progesterone levels brings about diverse somatic, vasomotor, and psychological manifestations, including hot flushes, mood swings, insomnia, and urogenital atrophy. Conventional hormone replacement therapy (HRT) offers symptomatic relief but is associated with significant side effects. Homoeopathy, based on the principle of individualization and holistic management, aims to restore balance within the vital force and promote overall well- being rather than suppress symptoms. Remedies such as Sepia officinalis, Lachesis mutus, Pulsatilla nigricans, Calcarea carbonica, and Ignatia amara are frequently indicated according to the totality of symptoms. This article discusses the physiological basis of menopause, its physical and emotional consequences, and the beneficial role of Homoeopathy as a safe, non-hormonal therapeutic option for women during this transitional stage of life.
