Abstract:

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a long-term, progressive inflammatory disease that predominantly affects the synovium. It is marked by the breakdown of bone and cartilage. This disorder often affects the small joints in the hands and feet, while it can occasionally affect larger joints also. Although certain medications may be able to control the symptoms and slow the progression of the illness, there is currently no known treatment for RA.

Corticosteroids, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (NSAIDs) and disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) are common treatments for RA. These drugs may lessen pain and inflammation, but they may also have negative side effects like nausea, vomiting and digestive problems. Homoeopathy, which is based on individualized treatment, offers a thorough approach that takes into account the patient's overall health as well as specific symptoms.

Methods: The case was documented at the Medicine OPD of Dr. DY Patil Homoeopathic Medical College and Research Centre. A 30-year-old female patient with prediagnosed case of rheumatoid arthritis was treated with individualized homoeopathic medicine (iHOM) from November 25, 2024 to August 28, 2025. The results were evaluated at the follow-up visits. An evaluation based on the modified Naranjo criteria was carried out to determine if the alterations were brought on by homoeopathic medication.

Results: Over the course of a nine-month observation period, iHOM medicine produced positive results that may be utilised by physicians as an additional form of treatment for rheumatoid arthritis.

Conclusion: Individualized homoeopathic medicine (iHOM) Sepia was prescribed based on the totality of symptoms. With 9 months of treatment, the disease's progression was halted and the patient felt better.
